Prices, Engines & Trim Levels
The Cupra Born range is defined by a small number of distinct versions that each give the car a slightly different flavour and none of them are shy about leaning into the Born’s extroverted personality. UK prices for the 2025 range start at around £34,000, which places it above many value focused EVs but comfortably within reach of anyone who wants a compact electric hatch with a bit of character.
Right from the start, the Born’s powertrain choices shape how the car feels on the road. The entry level Born 45 uses a 45kWh battery and a single electric motor producing around 150 bhp. It’s eager around town and makes the most of the car’s light footed chassis but its range is best suited to urban life and shorter trips rather than regular long distance runs.
A more compelling choice for everyday use is the Born 58 with its larger 58kWh battery and stronger motor generating around 204 bhp. That extra grunt doesn’t just improve straight line performance. it transforms the Born’s demeanour, giving it both greater mid-range urgency and more confidence on faster roads. This is the version that most buyers will find suits a broad mix of daily commuting, school runs and occasional long journeys without feeling compromised.
For those who want the Born to lean fully into its sportier DNA, there’s the Born VZ. With output bumped up to around 228 bhp and an optimised torque delivery, the VZ doesn’t turn the Born into a hot hatch but it does sharpen its reflexes and give the car a noticeably keener demeanour. It’s not about chasing impossibly quick 0–60 times; it’s about making the Born feel as alive as it looks when the road starts to twist.
All versions of the Born retain the same rear-drive layout — a key part of its character — but the way they deploy that power changes the personality of the car. Lower spec models feel light and willing, the mid-range cars feel more composed and confident and the VZ feels like it’s constantly anticipating your next corner.
Trim levels are thoughtfully judged rather than overwhelming. Even base cars feel well equipped, while higher trims add visual polish, larger wheels, advanced tech and comfort features that underline Cupra’s performance pedigree without turning the Born into an overly fussy package.
Compared with rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3, Peugeot e-2008 or Renault Megane E-Tech, the Born doesn’t compete solely on price or range figures. Instead, it asks you to consider how you want the car to feel — relaxed and capable, or a little more agile and spirited — and then delivers versions that match those intentions.
